North Arlington, Staten Island, New York has a long history in housing new immigrants from all over the world since the early 20th century. North Arlington was part of the Staten Island Fresh Kills Landfill which was closed and turned into Freshkills Park on October 22, 2001 by former Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani to open it up to the public for recreation purposes at the end of 2008.
