2023 Honda Accord vs. 2023 Chevrolet Cruze

The Honda Accord and Chevrolet Cruze are two of the best-selling cars in their class, so it makes sense that they're both popular among consumers. If you're looking for a new car, these two models might be on your shortlist. Let's look at how these two sedans compare to help you decide which is right.

Design & Style

  • Exterior Design
2023 Honda Accord vs. 2023 Chevrolet Cruze

The Honda Accord and Chevrolet Cruze are both very attractive cars. The Accord’s exterior design is sleek and modern, featuring a fastback-inspired roofline, active shutter grille, full LED headlights and taillights, and distinct alloy wheels. Sport and Sport-L Hybrid models include unique styling elements such as 19-inch alloy wheels and gloss-black decklid spoilers, emphasizing the car's sporty appeal. It's not too far off from the current generation of Honda Civic, one of our favorite designs in this segment.

The Cruze's exterior is a little more traditional in nature-it doesn't stand out as much as the Accord, but it still looks good overall. The car has an athletic stance thanks to its long wheelbase and wide track widths (the distance between each wheel).

  • Interior Design

The Honda Accord's interior is refined, with premium amenities like heated and available ventilated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and a driver’s memory seat. The cabin offers comfortable seating for up to 5, with an upscale option of perforated leather-trimmed seats in higher trims and a practical 60/40 split fold-down rear seatback.

The 2023 Chevrolet Cruze has an equally simple interior design-but its simplicity comes from different sources than those of the Accord. Instead of being sleek and modern like its competitor's, it looks more like something out of an '80s sci-fi movie: lots of buttons everywhere (including one on top of each door handle), plenty of fake wood trimming around everything else, plus some weird purple lighting effects inside that make no sense whatsoever unless you're trying to distract someone.

Technology & Safety

Honda's advanced features include a new 12.3-inch color touchscreen with swipe functionality, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto™, and a 10.2-inch Driver Information Interface. The Touring Hybrid model boasts a Head-Up Display and a 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System, enhancing the driving experience with cutting-edge technology.

Honda Sensing offers comprehensive safety tech, including Collision Mitigation Braking System™, Road Departure Mitigation System, Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and more. Additional safety features like the Blind Spot Information with Cross Traffic Monitor and front and rear parking sensors enhance awareness and security on the road.

The Cruze's dashboard isn't as sleek as the Accord's; instead, it looks more like something from an older vehicle (which isn't necessarily bad). However, this model does have better safety features than its competitor does-for example: automatic emergency braking and lane keep assist technology are standard on all models except for base trims; blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert come standard on LTZ trim levels only; forward collision warning with automatic braking comes standard on Premier trims only.

Performance

The Honda Accord’s base 1.5L turbocharged engine in LX and EX models offers 192 HP and 192 lb-ft of torque, with a CVT for smooth acceleration. It's efficient, achieving up to 29 city MPG and 37 highway MPG. The available 204-HP hybrid powertrain in various trims (Sport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, Touring Hybrid, and EX-L Hybrid) provides excellent mileage and a significant range, reaching up to 51 city MPG and 44 highway MPG in the EX-L Hybrid. It's important to note that actual mileage will vary based on driving habits and conditions. The Cruze, on the other hand, has a 1.4-liter turbocharged inline-4 that produces 153 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque (it can be paired with a manual transmission).

The Bottom Line

The Honda Accord is a better car than the Chevrolet Cruze in almost every way. It has a larger interior, with more legroom and cargo space, which is perfect if you have kids or want to carry around lots of stuff. The Accord also has better safety features.
