Sensing Adaptive Cruise Control on Hondas

Sensing safety systems have been equipped on certain Hondas for a couple of years now. One of the Honda Sensing Systems is the Adaptive Cruise Control. With it, you can set up follow distance and speed in traffic. On the steering wheel, the controls to make adjustments can be found. Monitoring and automatic adjustments can be made by the Adaptive Cruise Control which will adjust and set speed and following distance.

Some step-by-step instructions can be found below for how to use and set this system.

Step-By-Step Guide For Using the Sensing Adaptive Cruise Control by Honda

  • On the steering wheel, press the button that says MAIN.
  • When you reach your desired speed, press the SET/- button.
  • To adjust your speed by one mile-per-hour, up/down, press the buttons that say RES/+ and SET/-
  • To adjust to speed up/down by five miles-per-hour, press and hold the buttons just mentioned.
  • To adjust following distance, on the steering wheel, press the interval button.
  • To cancel Adaptive Cruise Control, press MAIN or CANCEL.

Should You Have Cruise Control on Your Car?

The benefits of cruise control are many including the following:

  • You're able to better practice speed control. This is the number one reason people have cruise control on their cars. You're less likely to speed past other drivers and accelerate unconsciously, but rather, stay at a consistent speed.
  • Particularly during long trips, cruise control can help reduce the possibility of fatigue.
  • Gas wasting deceleration and acceleration is reduced. So, the amount of fuel used by your engine is better regulated with cruise control. You’re saving on gas and improving fuel economy. How much? An average of 17.2% increase in fuel efficiency can be realized by using a 60-mph setting on your cruise control.

When Not to Use Cruise Control

Though cruise control is a beneficial device in your Honda, there are times when it should not be used.

  • If you are drowsy, you may want to steer away from using cruise control.
  • If you are easily distracted behind the wheel, cruise control may not be right for you.

Keep in mind, as well, that in some cases, a decrease in driver reaction time (braking) may occur during the use of cruise control.
