How To Change Honda Windshield Wipers

To save a little money, some people try to do as much as they can when it comes to simple car maintenance. They do things like changing the oil, relacing windshield wipers, changing headlights, etc. For those who do like to do things themselves and would like to know how to change Honda windshield wipers, we've got some information.

Below, you will find some very generalized instructions as to how to change the windshield wipers on a Honda Civic. Why a Honda Civic? For starters, more than 12 million units have been sold in just the past five decades. In America, one of the top three best selling cars is the Honda Civic.

Windshield Wiper Changing On a Civic

Though wiper blades for your windshield are relatively standard, over the years, different designs and variations have been created. Check your owner's manual to find out the part number for the windshield wipers you need. If you don't have your owner’s manual, you may be able to find the information online or by talking to your local Honda of Staten Island dealer. Once you have the right blades (windshield wipers), you can get started.

  • Away from the windshield, raise each wiper blade. To make removal mechanism access easier, start with the driver’s side.
  • To take the blades off, from both sides, press the pinch clip in. (Some clips differ.) It's about halfway down the blade. The blade will loosen when you do this. Out of its holder, you can now slide it downward and then take it off.
  • Position the new wiper so that, at the wiper attachment, the hooked end of the new blade is pointing. You'll know it's locked into place when it clicks as you slide it upward in the holder. (To make room for the new blade, and open the holder, you may need to apply pressure if you have a specific type of pinch clip.)
  • For the wiper on the passenger side, you will repeat the process for removal and replacement.
  • Back down onto the windshield, fold the wipers into place. Turn on the windshield wash and test them out. This way you'll know that they’re properly aligned and fitted. You may need to loosen and refix the blades if you notice that water streaks are being left behind.

Do your Honda’s Wipers Need Changing?

When should new wiper blades be installed on your vehicle? Here are some suggestions:

  • When the seasons change
  • They're not making proper contact with your windshield
  • The frames are bent
  • You hear rattling or chattering sounds from them
  • Problems with the rubber (they leave streaks on your windshield)
